Select Demo was contracted by Suffolk Construction Co. to perform the complete take-down and asbestos abatement of the 200,000 SF former Saugus Middle School and High School in Saugus, MA. The demolition made way for a new state-of-the-art school that now accommodates 1,400+ students and includes updated science and technology labs, a new 12,000 SF gym, a 750-seat auditorium, outdoor classrooms, and student walkways and gardens, among numerous other amenities. Along with the demolition of the onsite structures, Select Demo self-performed the abatement of asbestos masonry and roofing in which the Massachusetts DEP issued a Non-Traditional Work Plan to bulk load and dispose of. The abatement scope also consisted of the removal of most of the interior finishes as asbestos containing materials. A major challenge of the project was the extremely tight logistics of the worksite with multiple trades working simultaneously – a challenge that Select’s Team overcame. Select is proud that this was project finished ahead of schedule with no incidents or injuries.
